10W30 etc is the viscosity (thickness of the oil) where as the SN/SM is the grade or generation of oil tech. For old wearout engines you need oil with thicker viscosity...

It all depends upon your current condition of engine

how can I measure engine condition ?
Check the amount of oil recovered on your next oil change if the different is more than 500ml then you need a bit thicker oil than the previous one you are using... e.g. if you are using 3 L of 10W-30 and on next oil change you recover 2.5 L or less of oil then you probably be needing to put 10W-40 or 15W-40
cool thank you Bilal Bhai :) or agr oil kam nhi hota then ?
the other way is putting your finger in the exhaust and if you get at dirty black finger with some stickiness this means you have a weaker engine and either needs the rings replaced or need a thicker oil
apse milta houn weekend pe :) for guidance
One more thing... at the time of cold start, open the lid of your car's radiator and observe the water level.. if you see bubbles generating in it more often and it's not a clean liquid means you have a weak engine.
Farrukh Khan if it's not reducing the oil then no need to change the brand/thickness of oil... keep using the one you are using at the moment.
